Lodging on the island books up early, so waste no time reserving a place to stay. Go to the "Accomodations" page below for some links to help you out. If you are traveling a long way, you may want to get reservations for both Friday and Saturday night (the 4th and 5th). There is plenty to do on the island, so we guarantee you won't regret spending extra time there! You can hunt down the pottery shops, shop in Eastsound, hike or drive up Mt Constitution and climb to the top of the lookout tower where you'll get 360° views of the Cascade and Olympic mountain ranges, swim at Cascade Lake, play a round of golf, pedal around on a bike or paddle around in a sea kayak, lunch on a beach, go on a whale-watching tour, or rent a sailboat... that's just to get you started.
The wedding will be at the Orcas Hotel, which is literally about 200 feet away from the ferry dock in Orcas Village. Walking onto the ferry instead of driving is definitely an option and advisable if you do not plan to stay on the island overnight. Even if you are staying on the island, this would be possible if you arrange to get a ride to and from your hotel, either by cab, island shuttle, friend, or family. See the "Travel" page for more information on taxis and shuttles.
If you do drive, it is crucial that you know that ferry waits can be a few hours in the summer if you're in a car, in particular on Friday evenings and Saturday mornings and returning on Sundays! If you are flying in, please allow plenty of time for this when you plan your flights. You may even want to stay in Seattle for an evening if it'll make the trip easier.
The ferry to Orcas Island leaves from Anacortes, Washington, which is about a two hour drive from Seatac Airport. If you plan to walk across, there is a parking lot at the ferry dock. The ferry ride itself is about an hour. See the "Travel" page for links to the ferry info.
When reading the schedule, be sure to pay attention to Westbound versus Eastbound sailings. Westbound is the direction from Anacortes to Orcas Island. Eastbound is the direction back to Anacortes. Also pay attention to the symbols next to the sailing as they indicate important information related to that sailing.
The dress code is "dressy casual." To us this means jackets,
ties, and shiny shoes are discouraged, and brightly colored
shirts and flip-flops are encouraged.
